We arrived in Madrid 6.35 am in the morning. The airport was very quite and there was no lines at immigration. We ordered an uber and was at our airbnb by 8am. We were very lucky because our airbnb had just had a rare night where it had been vacant so we were about to enter straight away. We weren’t tired even though 24 hours had passed since we had boarded our flight in Perth, Western Australia and we had no sleep. We hit the ground running and walked to Parque de El Retiro. We viewed the Palacio de Cristal from the outside. We wandered through the Monumento a Alfonso X11. We The Fuente de los Galapagos is a stunning fountain comissioned by Ferdinband V11 to honour the first birthday of Princess Isabella. We saw the Casita del Pescador. Our last stop in the park was the Montana Artificial. We went in a tunnel where there was a stunning Christmas display. Just as we left the park we came upon the incredible Peurta de Alcala, a triumphal arch with stone carvings and elegant sculptures. We then headed to the Grab Via, an iconic street with grand, early to 1900s architecture, bars and restaurants.
